The Journey of Belonging with Intero: Values Build Bridges and Mission Fosters Community

At Intero, we understand that the journey of relocation and integration is not just about physical movement, it's about building a foundation for success in a new environment. We are committed to upholding our core values, which serve as guiding principles in every interaction and effort we undertake.

Our first and foremost value is a warm welcome and full support. We believe that every individual embarking on a new chapter deserves to feel embraced and empowered from the moment they set foot in Finland. Whether it's assisting with practical matters or providing emotional support, we are dedicated to making sure that newcomers and their families feel valued and supported every step of the way.

Support is not just a service, it's a lifeline. Connection and bridge-building is at the heart of everything we do. We recognize that the transition to a new society can be scary, and having a trusted ally to guide the way can make all the difference. We strive to be that bridge, connecting newcomers with the resources, networks, and information they need to thrive in their new home.

Intero's mission embodies our commitment to being that vital link for newcomers entering Finnish society. Our mission is clear: to provide personalized, human-centric support precisely when it's needed most. By acting as a trusted point of contact, we aim to ease the transition process and set newcomers on a path toward integration and success. In line with this dedication, Intero offers three months of continuous support to ensure newcomers receive ongoing support throughout their integration journey.

We came up with to study done by MoniSuomi which has some interesting data about the expat community. In Finland, studies show that up to 25% of expatriates and their families struggle with feelings of isolation and loneliness during their initial months of relocation. Loneliness is common among young immigrant men, with 14% of all immigrants experiencing loneliness. One in five men aged 20–29 say they are lonely. One in four men from the Middle East and North Africa are lonely, and loneliness has clearly increased within this demographic since 2018.

About four out of five immigrants have at least one friend in Finland, but when looking at the background country groups and genders, the variation is large: only 68% of men from the Middle East and North African countries have a friend in Finland, and 73% of women from the same background country group have a friend in Finland, while Russia, and Estonia groups, nine out of ten have a friend who lives in Finland

According to a study conducted by The MoniSuomi, which focused on the experiences of immigrants in Finland, factors contributing to loneliness among immigrants include employment challenges, lack of support networks, and experiences of discrimination Source: National Survey on the Health, Well-being and Services of Those Born Abroad – MoniSuomi 2022; published 2023. Additionally, the study emphasizes the importance of societal receptivity and the need for clear guidance and advice on available services to reduce the impact of loneliness on immigrants' mental health and well-being. Our values extend beyond mere assistance, they shape our very approach to service delivery. Inclusivity lies at the heart of our operations, ensuring that every individual feels seen, heard, and valued within our community. We recognize that true integration starts with a sense of belonging, and we are dedicated to creating spaces where newcomers and their families feel welcomed with open arms.

Central to our values is empathy. We understand that moving to a new country can be overwhelming, and that's why we approach each interaction with compassion and understanding. We are here to listen, to support, and to empathize with the unique challenges that come with relocation.

Our approach is personalized because we recognize that every journey is different. From the moment a newcomer arrives, we tailor our support to meet their specific needs and preferences. Whether it's finding the right neighborhood, navigating cultural differences, or simply offering a listening ear, we want to offer our dedication that makes newcomers feel truly cared for. Empowering newcomers to take control of their integration journey and to thrive in their new environment. Through our cultural training programs, we equip individuals and families with the knowledge and skills they need to adapt and succeed in Finnish society.

And perhaps most importantly, we understand the power of community. Moving to a new country can feel isolating, but with Intero, no one has to go it alone. We are building a supportive community where newcomers can connect, share experiences, and lean on each other for support. Because together, we are stronger.

As we look to the future, our vision is clear: a Finland where every newcomer feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to fully participate in society. We are committed to making this vision a reality, one personalized interaction at a time.

Thank you for being part of the Intero’s community. Together, we are building a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
